Trees and bushes have larger seeds than their flower cousins, so have developed methods of distributing their seeds. The seed is coccooned within the shell of a nut or in the soft flesh of fruit or berries. Birds often distribute seeds within their droppings after having eaten the berries of a bush. Fruit that falls to the ground and rots is not wasted, for the rotten fruit becomes fertilizer for the seed within. Of course fruit, berries and nuts are gathered for food.
