Trees are the longest living of all the plants, having life spans of hundreds of years. Oak - 15 and 16 are of the famous oak of Sherwood Forest rumoured to be over eight hundred years old. All trees are vital to the welfare of life on Earth exchanging carbon dioxide for oxygen, as well as providing food and shelter for insects, birds and animals alike. Many fungi only grow on trees and wood stumps.
